I wonder if the concept of shopping within a budget is what gets Michele in trouble with some of the fashion cops around here? It's good to see that many, if not most women do not agree.

Michelle Obama turned the campaign trail into a runway this year, sporting eye-catching colors and feminine cuts that sent fashion bloggers buzzing.

As she coupled chic designer splurges with off-the-rack goodies from J. Crew, H&M, White House/Black Market and Target, fashion spectators say her ability to make a strong statement on a budget sends an important message during tough economic times.

"What she has worn in the last year has really caused a seismic reaction in the fashion community, and also retailers are depending on her," Stephenson said. "The choices she has made have set fire to slumps in retail that we've seen because of the recession." Video Watch the buzz on Obama fashion and a favorite designer »

There is such a demand for information on Obama's style and outfits that there is a Web site dedicated to that theme: MrsO.org. It promises a regular look at who and what she's wearing.

I think she looks pretty good, but then again, I'm not a fashion etiquette type of person. I've even been known to wear a spring colored bandanna in the late fall. :)

Urban Chic is fine - so is saving money and looking well dressed while doing it.

However, Michelle Obama is not having much success at it - in my personal opinion.

Most of us already know what colors look like crap on us and what looks cheap etc.

The dress she's wearing in that picture doesn't fit her, it's cut for someone with a much stronger top half, the color is wrong and the fabric looks cheap.

It's one thing to save money and look good, it's another to save money and look like you were trying to save money.

I fully consider myself qualified to speak - I am a woman, and I have a mirror that I know how to use ;)

LOL...

Man, finding a good debate around here has been tough. The only one I've managed to get into is about "fashion", something I am not even remotely qualified to discuss. I too have a mirror, and I know how to avoid looking in it. :)

she DID look really good at the inauguration ball in the single strapped gown

I dont know that I would have chosen that color, but the fit, the cut and her hair and makeup were really good.

It WAS WAY tmi - and absolutely creepy though when he said "how hot is my wife" - ummm... tepid, lukewarm, a few blocks the far side of chilly ;)

it reminded me of when tipper and al started smooching on stage - NOT professional at all
